McMahons Point 2009

Architect: Patricia Sims

Style: Restore to original charm

Owners: Private

This original 1880’s grand corner house was bought by the owners whilst still a maze of units. The architect and owner methodically set about restoring this residence back to its former glory. The shell of this grand dame was still there, but decay and lack of maintenance over time led this house to be a shambles.

Stripping it right back to raw bricks we installed new sash windows with cords and weights throughout.  New bearers, joists and 200mm wide hardwood floorboards, new render and set with fluted corners, large skirting boards and restoration of original stairs and tessalated tiling is turning this house back to a beautiful home. This is an ongoing project which has been done in stages and is now on the next stage of restoring front fascade.

Difficult heritage restrictions and tight council rules has limited us to doing this job in stages. The owner is living here now and loves the house and is very excited about the next stage.
